Victoria is an architectural triptych with integrated gardens and lounge areas inspired by domestic space aesthetics structural framings, public playas and man-made environments where nature and architecture collide. Most of my sources come from domestic architecture found in Puerto Rico. Iron wrought screens or rejas, became ubiquitous to the architecture of post-war Puerto Rico due to the security they provided and their ability to allow for cross ventilation. Victoria translates to Victory. Victoria is also my mother’s middle name. The three structures that comprise Victoria are made of hundreds of unique plasma cut and powder coated welded steel parts. These columns and beams are patterned, creating a transparency that allows for sunlights to pass through and project intricate shadows on the surrounding plaza and gardens. I hope that visitors not only find satisfaction in the aesthetic experience Victoria will offer but in the opportunity of finding moments of contemplation, relaxation and interconnection. Victoria was commissioned by Facebook Open Arts in Fremont, California.
